And let the job begin...

So I've been missing again, sorry.
I've been employed full-time, by a greedy monster called job-hunting.
I've had several jobs in the past: lunch server, store associate in a gift shop, library assistant, courtesy clerk, painter, assistant teacher, babysitter, etc. And yet I always have such a hard time finding a job. Out of the jobs mentioned and other jobs that I've had I cannot think of one where I was not hired because I knew an employee there or had some other influential connection.
Also, two of my past jobs were positions that I held for nearly a year and usually that kind of commitment catches a potential employers eye, right? Well, that doesn't seem to be the case.
I'm also trying to find an internship (that's the last thing I need to achieve my degree). And I have to do it by the end of the summer or I'll have to enroll in the Internship class at university again. :[
Why is it that jobs are so hard to find, even when you have a degree, or some college education?
One factor that probably plays a big part in this is location. I live in Alaska, the largest state in the United States, with, I believe, the smallest population of a state. And I live near the city, so it's not like I live in a small town that only has a handful of jobs.
I've even thought about trying to telecommute or to be a representative for Mary Kay, VistaPrint, etc. But things just won't work out.
Why? Why can't I find a job but young teenagers, still in high school can?
Perhaps God has another plan or obstacle for me to overcome currently, but why can't I get hired? I'd even settle for getting hired by McDonald's or another fast food joint now... almost.
